For example, Cloetta is a member of the World Cocoa Foundation, which promotes sustainable cocoa growing, and the RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) which is committed to improving the conditions for palm oil production in Asia. In 2005 the RSPO adopted “Principles and Criteria for Sustainable Palm Oil Production” and has drafted a proposed Code of Conduct. Cloetta’s own Code of Conduct is fully consistent with the content of these documents.
World Cocoa Foundation
Since 2005, Cloetta is a member of the World Cocoa Foundation (WCF), which supports cocoa farmers and their families through a variety of programmes aimed at increasing the farmers’ yields and incomes and promoting sustainable cultivation.
Round Table on Sustainable Palm Oil
Since 2004 Cloetta is a member of the Round Table on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). Cloetta does not purchase palm oil as a raw material. From our European suppliers we purchase fat mixtures that are used in our chocolate production.
These fat mixtures contain palm oil, and at present it is not possible in the suppliers' production processes to differentiate certified palm oil (according to RSPO* criteria) from non-certified palm oil in the fat mixtures we purchase. The RSPO is an international organisation that works to promote the growth and use of sustainable palm oil. Cloetta's European principal supplier is one of the RSPO's founders and a member of its board.
It is our hope that increased certification will lead to greater access to certified palm oil, and to contribute to this we have chosen to involve ourselves through membership in the RSPO.
Cloetta is currently studying the opportunities to buy certificates for sustainably produced palm oil (according to the same principle as trading of emissions quotas, etc.).
